This monitors the harmful emissions from ships. However, ship efficiency is quite an unknown concept. We would like to tell you a bit more about this term and why it’s useful!
The concept of ship efficiency is related to the emission of CO2. The ship efficiency design improves the machinery operations on ships, in order to reduce the amount of CO2 emission of those ships in a cost-effective manner. This design was adopted in 2011 and will make sure that ships contribute to a better climate and environment. There are actually two efficiency measures: the energy efficiency design and the ship energy efficiency management plan. Ultimately both measures will help to reduce the fuel consumption and make sure that ships are built in accordance with the measures. Nowadays, implementation of the ship efficiency method is mandatory, which leads us to the following paragraph.
Ship efficiency can be implemented in various ways. First of all, the efficiency management plan can be implemented by optimizing the speed vessel. There can also be a hull cleaning in dry dock or heat recovery methods can be installed. Lastly, course changes can be made, in order to tackle rough weather. All these measurements must reduce the pollution of ships. Obviously the measurements depend on the type of the ship, such as ship size and segments. During the design process of ships, the measurements of ship efficiency must be taken into account. Every ship that has been designed after 2013, must meet the mandatory measurements.
